In honour of the opening of Twenty26’s luxury spa we decided to take
a look at the best of the rest around the globe bringing you
the ultimate 2016 spa guide.
Here is our hand-picked top 7.
No.7, The Botanique, Brazil
Built from local slate and salvaged timber set in subtropical forests The Botanique in the Mantiqueria Mountains of Brazil can offer you everything from rainforest meditations, salt flotation tanks, spring-water showers, exfoliating muds or even a native animal-touch massage.
And if you get bored you can always opt for mountain-biking, capoeira-kicking and horse-riding!
No. 6, Reethi Rah, The Maldives
Reethi Rah is part of the One&Only Collection, a collection of the most luxurious resorts around the world.
With a beachfront lap pool, a private lagoon, translucent seas, 6 kilometres of private beach and the slogan ‘life begins here’ Reethi Rah is built on an ethos of total luxury.
Spa treatments take place in thatched-roof beach front villas by expert therapists in surroundings so beautiful it’s hard to comprehend. Just as well your only focus is on complete and utter relaxation…
No. 5, Soukya, Bangalore, India
The first of its kind in the world and the brainchild of guru-to-the stars Dr Issac Mathai, the Soukya spa in Bangalore offers Ayurvedic massages, intensive purging treatments, as well as hydrotherapy and naturopathy using herbs from its tropical garden.
This spa is not luxury per se but its certainly a spa-to-the-stars wanting a truly cleansing experience.
No. 4, SHA Wellness Clinic, Villa de Altea, Alicante
On a mountainside overlooking the Mediterranean sea this hospital-come-five-star-hotel is only concerned with your well being.
Large swimming pools, waterfalls, hydrotherapy and relaxation zones are coupled with therapies and treatments from the mad to the life saving. From shiatsu massages to detoxifying seaweed baths; blood test analysis to Kushi (macrobiotic) detox weeks the SHA Wellness Clinic will leave you healthier, happier and probably quite a bit lighter.
No. 3, The Ranch, California
If detox, weight-loss and disconnection is what you’re after then The Ranch, California is for you. Off grid, wifi-free, this mountain retreat is a 24/7 intensive programme to help you hit the reset button.
Set in 120 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains you will be partaking in activities such as hiking, climbing, swimming, circuits, TRX, water polo and Yin yoga to name just a few…
Fear not there are daily massages and meditations (and afternoon naps are encouraged) in this vegan detox extravaganza!
You have been warned!
No.2, The Amorita Resort, Bohol, The Philippines
Less detox more indulgent, The Amorita Resort on the island of Bohol in The Philippines is the gift that just keeps giving.
Perched on a clifftop at the eastern end of the famous and exclusive Alona Beach, you can enjoy cliff-top eternity pools, private plunge pools, sunset SUP yoga classes, in-room or in-spa therapeutic treatments including many traditional Filipino massages and treatments.
With staff seemingly obsessed with tending to your every need it’s hard to muster up the energy to do anything other than relax.
Amorita is more of a ‘staff deliver handmade chocolates to your room every night’ kind of resort than a vegan-detox-spa-retreat.
Bring on the chocolates we say!
No.1, The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, Switzerland
If the definition of a spa is “a mineral spring considered to have health-giving properties” then a Swiss world-acclaimed thermal and medical spa must surely take our top spot. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz has more or less every possible medical expert on hand. Whether you fancy a new set of teeth, a full-on gynaecological screening complete with mammogram and ultrasound, an MOT for your eyes, heart and lungs; metabolic optimisation or assistance for insomnia, they have someone for you. And that’s before you enjoy the thermal baths, the spas, the pools, the massages, and all the luxurious treatments.
As givers-of-health go, The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is as generous as it gets, and deserving of the crown of Spa 2016.
